OWENSBORO DAVIESS COUNTY
YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Owensboro Daviess County Youth Football League was established in 1972 to provide a fall athletic activity for area youth. The program has grown to the point where it has become one of the largest leagues for youth football in the United States. The league suits over 1,200 football players and over 350 cheerleaders each year.

The activities of the league are centered among the Waymond Morris Park located on Todd Bridge Road off Southtown Blvd. The Youth football Complex is a state of the art Youth Football Complex that houses four lighted football fields. It is one of the only complexes throughout the south built only for the purpose of youth football. The league consists of over 55 teams ranging from ages 5 to 13 years of age. Majority of the teams are made up of youth from Owensboro and Daviess County with remaining teams from Rockport Indiana and McLean County Kentucky.

Teams consist of 5-6 year olds for Flag, 7-8 year olds for Rookie, 9-10 year olds for JV, 11-13 year olds for Varsity. For safety, weight restrictions for certain positions are strictly enforced. Games are played according to Kentucky High School Athletic Association rules with a minimum of two qualified officials overseeing each game.

Activities start in August with registration, equipment issue and a draft for new players. Jamboree Day is usually the last Saturday in August. It is an exciting all day affair during which each team plays in a short, unofficial game with the sideline support of their cheerleaders.

The regular season begins the following week with games played on Saturdays, Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings and continues throughout September and October. Parents and families attend all games. Excitement builds with every game as the players watch their team’s progress on the league standings board. Then each division begins the league playoffs which coincide with the cheerleading competition where routines learned and practiced during the season are performed in front of a packed house at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

After the playoffs, then all-stars will be chosen in all divisions. All teams will have at least 25 players. They will play in 3 tournaments, The King of the Hill Classic, The Kentucky Cup and The Turkey Bowl under their team or league name with their All- Star cheerleaders. The King Of the Hill Classic is a National Tournament which in recent years over 50 teams throughout the Ohio Valley have participated. The Turkey Bowl is competition between our own all-star teams and The Ky Cup is the Ky State Youth Football Championships. All three tournaments which are held in november is always great fun, exciting to watch and a great way to end the season.
